Motherland
This installation is the result of my Visual Arts Master in Costume Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (BE). Following the question: Who am I and where am I from?
I was inspired by my Ukrainian family as well as the history of Eastern Europe. Transforming memories and experiences in to physical pieces made out of up- and recycled materials and found objects, I created six costumes, nine flags and two videos.
This work was awarded with the Department Prize for Costume Design 2021.
Costumes made out of secondhand fabrics, found objects, and shown on wooden pools (250 cm)
Flags: embroidery and appliques with found/collected fabrics (various sizes)
Dressing video: big projection (7min/loop)
Mood video: on screen (45 sec/loop)
